Hiking up le Roc d'Enfer - July 2005

We kicked the season off in true ‘Challenge Activ' style by hiking up le Roc d'Enfer, one of the spectacular peaks that can be seen from the chalet. In order to miss the midday heat we set off at 6.30am and in doing so were able to witness the sun rising over the mountains. Local guide, Victor, led us up the technical, challenging and, in places, very steep path that his Great Grandfather had built, pointing out an abundance of chamoix and marmottes along the way! A quick stop at the summit (2243m) gave us the chance to refuel and to take in some of the awesome scenery that lay below us before we made our way back down the start point, the tiny village of Graydon, for a lunch of charcuterie, cheese and plenty of well-earned beers!
