Challenge Diary - Mountain Bike Circuit

Every couple of weeks the Challenge Activ team and their guests ride the Portes du Soleil circuit – a loop of approx. 50-60km, including miles of quality single-track, long & winding 4x4 tracks, technical, steep descents and, inevitably, the odd climb! It is extremely dependent on weather, timing and abilities as it is a long and challenging day…however the views of Mont Blanc and the eastern end of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) are utterly breathtaking. For those hard-core riders among us there is always the 300m climb of the Col de Cou to add on at the end!

This week 26 of us, the largest group CA has ever ridden the circuit with, completed the 60km loop. Riding alongside us was Celine Gros (2004 Downhill MB World Cup winner) and 3 of her equally talented friends! (I say ‘riding alongside us' in the loosest possible of terms!!!) Despite the large number of people it was a fabulous and fast-paced day and many thanks have to go to Celine for taking time out of her busy schedule to come and ride with us!

Team Day Out: Despite the fact that they have only been riding for a couple of months, this week Manda, Becky and Clare, the CA girls, (plus guests Dave, Steve and Phil) completed 45km of the circuit. I think they all enjoyed themselves (including Claire ‘ it's my bloody day off ' Vanbesien!!!) and they should be extremely proud of their achievement!

Adam, Gary & Ady and the Hardy group completed the first circuit of the season along with Anna and Simon. With all the previous hot weather we'd had riding was fast and furious but, as usual, time was made for a sandwich stop at the top of Super Chatel, overlooking the stunning Mont Blanc .
Special commendations should go to Nigel for a succession of spectacular and occasionally smelly (not wise to fall into very fresh cow poo!) tumbles throughout the week!
